Teacher Carlene Bechen and David Thompson hatched the whole concept. Jared Vincent of ZDA Inc. provided significant help in design, especially in evaluating slope and drainage of the garden.
Rick Bechen of Bechen Forestry LLC, Carlene Bechen, Jared Vincent, and David Thompson organized and supervised construction of the garden, while Rick Bechen provided a bobcat machine for several days at no charge--he guided it with amazing precision.
Seventh grade Toki students provided much of the labor for initial construction in the spring of 2015.
The garden was funded with a grant from the Friends of Lake Wingra. Plants were purchased wholesale from Agrecol, LLC. Later, plants were donated by David Thompson, Liz McBride, and Roger Bannerman.
Teacher Molly Wagner took over supervision of students and enlargement of the garden in years after initial construction.
